The Client

Our client was moving her home-based salon to the downtown core. She holds an impressive salon client list, and wanted the feel of the space to be upscale, memorable and experiential, while prioritizing a smaller budget and a tight timeline. As a certified green-circle salon, sustainability in the salon’s design was paramount.

Our Role

Our client valued the process and services--trusting our advice. We focused on an efficient space plan and chose unique finishes for a current but classic touch. The tight timeline guided our choice of in-stock products and upcycled elements. We managed contractors to ensure work was completed on time.

Design Solutions

Real wood floors were not in the budget nor durable enough for a salon, so we chose one of the most sustainable and durable flooring solutions available: marmoleum. Created from natural and renewable materials, it contains no phthalates, no plasticisers and no mineral oil. The floors have the contemporary look of concrete but are easy on the feet and the back, perfect for employees who stand all day.

For a sophisticated and boutique look, terrazzo slabs were added and create a substantial feel. We took special care in selecting caramel leather chairs, accessories and wallpaper, elevating the customer experience.

The [hair] ‘colour bar’ at the back of the salon is a one-of a kind element that brings the staff together socially and productively, taking into account how the employees work and move within the space.

Result

An emphasis on quality over quantity made a huge impact on this space. Rich and layered,  the client was in disbelief at the end result. It was well beyond her expectations, and we were thrilled to make her vision come to life within budget.
